Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

To learn to provide sterile, properly functioning, properly assembled, properly inspected, supplies and equipment throughout the Health System.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Team members may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.



  • Learn reprocessing of multiple use items including but not limited to decontamination, inspection, testing, assembly, packaging and sterilization.
  • Train in operation of all equipment in the Sterile Processing Department including steam and low temp sterilizers.
  • Train in decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments
  • Learn delivery, retrieval, and stocking of sterile instruments, supplies and equipment
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment
  • Accurately and consistently documents sterilizer loads, parameters, and biological test results under the direction of the supervisor or team lead.
  • Takes immediate and appropriate action when failures are recognized.




Job Requirements



Work Experience * Previous experience in Sterile Processing Preferred.
Education * Completion of sterile processing training program within 6 months of hire or transfer. * Certification as a sterile processing technician by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 18 months of hire.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills * Flexible and Adaptive to change * Strong communication skills. * Ability to deal with high stress associated with high-volume critical care departments * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard and basic computer skills to perform the essential duties of the job. * Ability to pass a standard Reading Comprehension Assessment with at least an 80%
